After brushing our teeth, many of us instinctively rinse our mouths with water. Sounds logical – but it's a mistake! This washes away some of the valuable ingredients in toothpaste or toothpaste. Here's why "spitting instead of rinsing" protects your gums better – and how you can immediately integrate this tip into your routine.
"Spit, don't rinse" means: After brushing your teeth, you spit out the toothpaste without rinsing with water. This leaves a thin layer of active ingredients on your teeth and gums. Products like PerioTrap Microbiome toothpaste were specifically developed for this purpose: Their ingredients continue to work long after brushing.
Your mouth is a living ecosystem – the oral microbiome. It consists of hundreds of types of bacteria that work in balance to keep you healthy. However, some of these bacteria can develop harmful properties under certain conditions – such as inflammation or an imbalance.
Rinsing your mouth immediately after brushing removes not only harmful plaque but also valuable active ingredients like fluoride, plant extracts, and PerioTrap® technology. Leaving them in longer can strengthen your tooth enamel, soothe your gums, and help stabilize the delicate balance of your microbiome.
Studies show that fluoride works significantly better when it remains on the teeth for a longer period – it remineralizes the enamel and makes it more resistant.
The patented PerioTrap® technology goes a step further: It selectively blocks harmful bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis – a key cause of periodontitis – while leaving the beneficial bacteria of the oral flora untouched. Unlike conventional agents, it doesn't indiscriminately kill all germs, but only intervenes where necessary. Therefore, it's important not to rinse immediately – this preserves the effectiveness of the technology and allows it to work at its full potential.
Many dentists call "spitting, not rinsing" the "fluoride effect booster" – because it can increase fluoride absorption by up to 30%!
